Clear Braces Guide: What to Consider When Getting Orthodontic Treatments

This clear braces guide will provide all the information you need when considering clear braces. These virtually invisible devices can be used to improve the alignment of your teeth and straighten them. Historically, traditional metal braces have been the norm when it comes to orthodontic treatments, but these devices completely change the way the wearer looks.

Clear braces can be used to fix mild to moderate alignment issues like minor underbites and overbites, spaces between teeth and poor alignment. This means anyone can now improve the appearance of their smile without compromising their look.

During this clear braces guide, we will go over some of the questions commonly asked by those considering clear braces.

Clear braces guide: FAQs

1. Are clear aligners expensive?

The exact price a patient pays for clear aligners depends on the seriousness of the person's alignment issues and the length of treatment required. However, while it makes sense to assume clear braces are more expensive since it is a more modern treatment, that could not be further from the truth. The prices of clear braces are comparable to the costs of traditional metal braces. At times, the costs of clear braces are even lower.

2. Does it lead to pain?

People who wear any kind of braces experience some pain from time to time, but those who wear clear braces experience significantly less pain than those wearing traditional braces. One of the reasons why this is the case is because clear braces apply pressure gradually instead of at once. The patient gets a series of aligner trays, and each is worn for about two weeks. Each tray applies slightly more pressure than its predecessor.

3. Must I wear them all day?

Yes. Clear braces have to be worn for at least 22 hours each day to ensure best results. Patients are allowed to remove them for meals and to clean their mouth, but it should be put back in once those tasks are completed.

4. Is it okay to eat or drink with clear braces on?

Patients should only drink water when wearing their aligners. Eating with them can lead to food particles being stuck between the tray and the patient's teeth, making them more vulnerable to tooth decay. The aligners are also prone to staining when the wearer consumes certain things like red wine or coffee.

The device becoming stained makes it more visible in the wearer's mouth.

It is best to remove the tray before eating. Patients should rinse it out with water before reinserting it after their meal, and they should brush their teeth as well.

5. How long does treatment take?

Patients wear clear aligners for anywhere between six months to two years. The more severe the orthodontic issue is, the longer the length of treatment needed to fix it. The average amount of time the patient uses the tray also affects the duration of treatment.
